Exercising Entitlements

Generation 2 Software Request Portal Only

If you have an authorization that has one or more enterprise (included) or optional entitlements associated with it, chances are you are entitled to move to a newer version at no charge.  If this is the case, you would choose to exercise one or more of your existing entitlements.

You can see your existing entitlements on the Gen 2 Software Request Portal, by clicking the appropriate link, usually located near the top of the request screen itself.  When you click to view existing entitlements, the portal will show all titles to which you are currently entitled, but not currently authorized.  If you select any of the entitled titles to place on your request, the portal will offer those titles at no charge and the letters "(ENT)" will be placed in front of the name of the title to show that you have chosen to exercise an existing entitlement.

Exercising entitlements does not require approval.  Upon submitting your request, the MIE will update your existing authorization record to reflect the new version and it will also conditionally (see Note 1) migrate a sufficient number of existing licenses (equal to the unit count in your authorization).  You will be authorized at the new version as soon as you finish and submit your request.

Note 1:  The MIE will only migrate licenses if the entitlement being used is not set to automatically migrate licenses (license migration) and there is still sufficient remaining entitlement owned position to support migrating licenses.

Note 2: The MIE will ONLY present entitlements to be exercised for entitlements that have remaining owned position available. This applies to both enterprise and optional entitlements.

Exercising an entitlement is not considered a financial event to the MIE.  No credit or debit record will be created as a result.

Note 3: When you are exercising an entitlement, you will not be presented with any applicable optional entitlements, even if there are optional entitlements defined for the MSL title to which you are upgrading.  If you wish to add an optional entitlement to your newly upgraded title, finish your current transaction to complete exercising your entitlement.  Then, return to the Software Request Portal and request the optional entitlement.  The portal will show that you are already authorized for the version you just moved to (and there will be no charge), but it will now offer the optional entitlements (assuming you have not waited too long between exercising your entitlement and choosing to add the desired optional entitlement.)
