Requesting Optional Entitlements

Generation 2 Software Request Portal Only

When selecting MSL titles to add to your request, you may optionally choose one or more additional entitlements to add (if available).  Additional entitlements might include things like software maintenance or Microsoft's Software Assurance.

Additional entitlements increase the value of your MSL authorization by allowing, among other things, you to choose to upgrade to any future versions that may be released later (depending on the terms of the additional entitlement).

The Gen 2 Software Request Portal keeps track of entitlements you currently have and will allow you to exercise those entitlements.

First, however, you must request and be granted an entitlement before you can exercise it.

Note that when selecting entitlements, the Gen 2 Software Request Portal will behave as follows:

1. You may only request any available optional entitlements - those that do not say "(included)".  Included entitlements are already extended to the title you are requesting and therefore do not need to be requested.

2. Optional entitlements that have expired (based on the settings in the entitlement record and/or its associated contract record) will not be visible for request (for obvious reasons).  However, if you do not see an optional entitlement presented that you expect, first check the entitlement's expiration settings to make sure it is still active.

3. If you are requesting an entitlement for an MSL title for which you are already authorized, then the entitlement you are requesting will not be visible for selection if too many days have passed since you received your authorization.  The portal will show the date of authorization.  Check the settings in the entitlement record to see the maximum number of days allowed to elect an entitlement after gaining authorization for the corresponding title.

4. You cannot select an entitlement by itself.  You must also select the title to which it is associated.  If you remove a title from the request area (by setting its quantity to 0 and clicking Update), then all corresponding entitlements will be removed from the request as well.

5. When selecting entitlements for server titles, be sure to set the entitlement quantity equal to the title quantity - so that enough entitlements are procured.

6. Be sure to check your current entitlements - you may already be entitled by an included entitlement, for example.  The portal will not stop you from over-entitling yourself!
