Re-requesting software

You may request an MSL title to which you are already authorized.  The main reason for re-requesting software through the portal is to cause the portal to send down an install job to re-install your software.  This may be done after your machine has been re-imaged or repaired, for instance, or if you suspect your old installation has somehow been corrupted.  Note that this only works for titles that are set to be delivered through automated software distribution that has been integrated with the portal.

Generation 1 Portal Behavior

When you re-request software, the SRP Gen1 portal will warn you that you are already authorized for the title you are requesting.  It will show the title at the usual price, and if the title requires approval, it will show the title as priced at the normal price in the message sent to the approver.  It will not charge for the re-request, however.

Generation 2 Portal Behavior

For workstation software requests, the SRP Gen2 portal will insert the letters "(AUTH)" in front of the title when you select the title for your request, to show that the title is already authorized.  It will show the price as 0, to indicate that you will not be charged again.  Also, it will not require approval for any re-requests of software, regardless of how the title has been set in the settings.  For workstation software requests, you may re-request a currently-authorized title just to be able to add one or more optional entitlements (the SRP Gen2 portal will not allow the requesting of add-on entitlements without a corresponding title.)

For server software requests, the SRP Gen2 portal does not recognize the concept of re-requesting software.  Instead, when you chose to place a title on your request for which you are already authorized, the quantity of license units required to cover the current authorization will be the default quantity in the request.  You then adjust the quantity up or down, as the case may be, in order to enter the new quantity of authorization units you require for the server.  The SRP Gen2 portal will calculate the different in units and will only charge for the different (if you are increasing units).  If you are decreasing units, the portal will show a 0 charge, however a correct credit record will be recorded and staged according to the system settings.
