Optional Entitlements

Optional entitlements are made available for purchase through the Software Request Portal (Generation 2).  Optional entitlements are set up through the corresponding Managed Software List record (via the setting "Optional entitlements for this title"), and viewed through the corresponding Entitlements record (via the setting "Individual MSL authorizations that have this entitlement").  They can only be created through the Software Request Portal (SRP).

As the name suggests, these entitlements are optional and may be chosen for purchase at the time of requesting an MSL software title.  The Software Request Portal requires that an MSL title be requested at the same time as the optional entitlement.

Once approved through the Software Request Portal, optional entitlements are assigned to the individual authorization record granted by the portal for the requested MSL software title.  The entitlement stays with the authorization, and the start/end dates of the entitlement are tracked separately.  This allows various optional entitlements to be requested, approved, and tracked - all with varying start and end dates.

When optional entitlements are requested and approved through the SRP, the MIE will check to see if an entitlement record already exists for the current authorization and entitlement.  If one does, it will be updated with new quantity, start, and end dates if one of the following is true:

1. The new end date is later in time than the current end date ... OR ...

2. The quantity has changed.

If neither of these conditions are true, the old entitlement record will be left as is and no charge will be issued for the new entitlement.  A charge will only be issued if the entitlement is actually used to replace the current entitlement (extending the current entitlement, for instance).
