One of the more important concepts of software license management is the Managed Software List (MSL). The MSL defines those software titles that are eligible for re-use (harvesting), and therefore the titles that fall within the scope of software license management. One of the most common mistakes made is to attempt to managed ALL software licenses. This is generally a task far greater than the resources that can be brought to bear, and the final result is a failed software license management program. Establishing and maintaining a proper MSL is key to a successful software license management strategy.
