Additional Entitlements

When you purchase software along with a maintenance contract, or other similar arrangements, you are extended additional entitlements over and above simply being licensed to load and run a given MSL title.  A common additional entitlement is the right to upgrade to any new versions, at no additional charge, while the maintenance contract or similar contract is in force.  The MIE allows tracking and leveraging some additional entitlements.

The Gen2 Software Request Portal (SRP) is able to offer entitlements to be optionally requested.  If an entitlement is requested, the MIE will track the entitlement against the authorization record for the MSL title to which it applies.  The Gen2 SRP will also offer any upgrade entitlements (due to software maintenance or similar contracts) to any asset/person currently going through the portal to request software.  For example, if asset # 1234567 is using the portal to request software, and that asset currently has an entitlement to upgrade to version 10 of a given title (and the asset currently is using version 9), the portal will offer version 10 for no charge.

Given sufficient access, additional entitlements are managed via the menu option Entitlements Definitions, which is a fly-out menu of Contracts.  Contracts is a left menu option of Asset Management.

Note:  The MIE allows entitlements to be used for both hardware and software.  (Generally an entitlement will be for one or the other, but hardware and software entitlements are managed using the same form on the MIE.)  Choose the settings appropriate for how you plan to use each entitlement.
