At run time, the MIE checks the session language setting (for catch point screens) or the thread level language setting (for the workflow engine) and uses that setting to decide how to replace tokens.  

When a token is replaced, the part of the token that specifies the <TextLangLineNo> is used to perform a lookup into the Alternate Language Lines table (dataMessagesLangaugeLines).  If the current language setting is "English", then the value is used to match the master record by matching on the TextLangLineNo column.  If the current language is anything other than English, then the value is used to match the record whose language matches the language setting, and whose TextLangLineNoParent column matches the value from the token.  The text from the Alternate Language Lines table is then used to completely replace the token in the stream of text.  This includes English text as well.  Although the original English text is retained as part of the token, at run time it will be replaced by the text that is in the Alternate Language Lines table.  The only exception is if a matching record cannot be found in that table for the English language.

Token replacement happens prior to the evaluation of any general tags.

If the current language setting is not English, and a matching record cannot be found in the Alternate Language Lines table, then English will be output as a default by the token substitution process.  Therefore, if translation lines have not been loaded for a particular catch point screen or email message, then the master English text will be substituted instead.
