Application Owners

Some MSL titles cannot have their authorized position determined through automated means.  Such titles often include server-based applications that have complex licensing schemes.  For such titles, the MIE offers the concept of Application Owners.

An Application Owner is accountable for reporting the authorized (deployed) position on the application(s) he/she owns on a periodic basis.  The MIE uses its Workflow engine to assist in automating this process.

On a defined frequency, the MIE will fire a defined workflow which is generally used to send a populated Excel spreadsheet to each of the Application Owners.  The spreadsheet contains information that the MIE has regarding the application(s) each owns, as well as blank columns where the Application Owner can update the current authorized position for each application.  The spreadsheet also allows the Application Owner to mark records for which he/she is no longer the owner, as well as the ability to add new applications that may not be known to the MIE.

The Application Owner returns the completed spreadsheet by replying to the workflow engine's email, with the updated spreadsheet attached.  The MIE's workflow engine then handles the incoming spreadsheet as defined by the workflow.
