If you choose to perform a mass update on a field that is also currently being used in the filter, the mass update will be performed, however when the operation is complete you will receive a warning and will be required to exit Mass Update mode.

The reason is that you have just changed the value of a field being used in the current filter, which will likely cause the records to drop from scope.  Exiting Mass Update mode will force you to re-establish a filter, at which time you may re-enter Mass Update mode and continue.

Hint - If you plan to perform mass update on several fields for the given record set, update the filter field last.
