Managing Drop downs

Drop-down lists are used on many MIE screens to constrain input to a defined list of choices.  The choices contained in most drop-down lists can be managed through the Drop-downs menu option.  Depending upon the module, the Drop-downs menu option appears on the left-hand menu either as a standalone, top-level menu option, or as an option under Settings/Admin. You must have sufficient access to see the Drop-downs menu option.

After clicking on Drop-downs you will be presented with the list of drop-downs that can be managed.  There are three actions potentially available for each drop-down in the list.  The actions are defined by buttons that may be enabled, depending on how the drop-down has been defined.  The actions are defined as follows:

Button

Edit

Brings up the current drop-down list for manual edit.  You can add, change, or remove items.

Fill from existing data

As an alternative, you can populate your database first, then create a drop-down from the unique values populated in the related field.  Only certain drop-down lists have this feature available.  This feature would often be used when importing an existing dataset to initially establish the data on the MIE.

Merge default values

Several drop-downs have default values defined, however you must manually choose to merge the default values into your values.
