Interviews

The Interview screen is available via the Interviews left menu option (given sufficient access exists).  It is designed to be used in real time while interviewing one or more people.  Answers are typed directly into the screen (as opposed to written on paper and transcribed later), and all answers to the question are visible to all interviewers.

The screen is divided into five major regions.

Region 1, Interview Information, is at the top left and contains specific information about the interview: project, interview name, questionnaire, description, date/time, place, interviewers, people being interviewed, and notes.  This information is stored when the Start/Resume Interview button is clicked.

Note:  An Interview is "owned" by the user who initially established the record in the MIE.  Only the owner may make changes to Interview Information.

Region 2, Question Selector, is in the middle left of the screen.  It contains a list of question sub-numbers that represent the questions that are assigned to the questionnaire that is assigned, in turn, to the interview.  A highlight shows the question currently being displayed.  While in interview, clicking on the next question sub-number will bring up the question and answers for that question.

Region 3, Question, is in the middle of the screen.  It contains the current question , the reason for asking the question, the scoring instructions, and the display order override.  Use the display order override to re-order the questions into a sequence that is appropriate for the interview.  Use any numbering scheme.  Lower numbers display ahead of higher numbers.  When changing the display order, click the Update button to save your change.

Note:  When choosing a numbering scheme, leave gaps between the numbers to allow for new questions to be inserted.  That way if a new question is inserted later, the downstream questions do not have to have their display orders updated.

Region 4, Attachments, is in the lower left of the screen.  It allows you to add one or more attachments to the interview record.  Attachments would be for any artifacts that are collected during the interview.

Region 5, Answers, is on the right side.  It contains your answer as well as the answers from others (if the question is being asked in other interviews and/or if more than one interviewer are participating).  There are two views from which to choose: View by question or View by Interview.

View by Question - sometimes it is desirable to ask the same question on several different interviews in order to compare answers given independently to different people.  This especially true of Generalist questions.  View by Question (the default) allows you to see all answers that have been posted to this question by all interviews and all interviewers.  It allows the ability to quickly compare answers to check for correlation.

View by Interview - if there are more than one interviewer participating in a given interview, this view allows you to narrow the answers you are seeing to just those given for the current interview.
