Unlimited Licenses

In some cases your license may afford unlimited use.  This can be simulated by entering a license record with such a large number of licenses that it would be impossible to exceed using those licenses.  The drawback of that approach is that it skews reporting, making it appear that there is a title with a large quantity of unused licenses, and that could be cause for concern, depending on the audience of the report.

The MIE can handle unlimited licenses as a special case.  When using the Manage Entitlements screen to enter a license, check the box to set the license as unlimited.

When a new license record is established from a request that has been marked as an unlimited license, the MIE assigns 999,999,999 licenses to the title.  The title is then managed as any other title in terms of allocation and de-allocation.  However, the compliance report will always show that the number of licenses owned always exactly equals the licenses in use - so that it appears there is neither an overage or underage.
