At its core, the WDA consists of a scheduler, an installer, and a tray application.  The scheduler handles getting the schedule from the MIE and ensuring the various tasks are run according to the schedule.  The installer handles installing any applications defined by the tasks, as well as any upgrades that have been made available by ESI.  The tray application is mostly a visual indicator to the end user that the WDA is installed and operating, although the tray application is used to deliver targeted messages to end users.

The since the WDA core components includes an installer, any number of other modules can be managed by the WDA and be scheduled to run on a periodic basis.  Additional modules available from ESI include the scanner and the usage monitor.
