Geo-Location

The MIE subscribes to a world-wide database of all registered public IP address ranges.  The database provides the city, state, country, and internet service provider for any given public IP address.  The MIE's database is updated monthly.

When an MIE user logs in, the public IP address of the workstation they are using at the time is used to determine their current location on the globe.  Once the location is determined, the flag of the country they are currently in (or, more precisely, from which they are accessing the internet) is displayed next to their name at the top right of the screen.  Additionally, the information is also saved to their user record.
