Catch Points

Catch Points are asset life cycle process points where asset change data can likely be captured.  There are generally many catch points when setting up an asset management system.

Asset Management allows you to define your catch points, and, for those that are to be automated through the use of interactive screens, allows you to design and manage the screens.  You can also manage some of the settings for Consolidate.

Catch Points are managed by Asset Management's Catch Points menu option, available under the Process left menu option.  You must have sufficient access to manage catch points.

Screens can be designed using any HTML editor.  Data from the screens is generally written to the IMAC Staging table, which is then picked up by the Consolidate function and consolidated into the asset tables.  There are some catch point functions that bypass writing data to the IMAC Staging table and are handled separately - although they can still be designed and managed using an HTML editor and the Asset Management module's Catch Point process area.

Unique Catch Points handled by Asset Management include:

Software Request Portal

Allows end users to request approval to use, and to have installed, any of the currently defined Managed Software List (MSL) applications.  The Software Request Portal manages approval and can be integrated with automated software distribution packages, such that approved software can then be automatically installed.

Transfer MSL Applications

Transferring MSL applications is generally performed by a technician as part of a repair action that involves swapping the hard drive from a bad asset and placing it in a good one.  This causes currently authorized MSL applications to be physically moved from one asset to another.  This Catch Point screen allows the technician to update the records to indicate such a move has occurred.  It allows MSL application transfer without credits/debits.
