Barcode Format

The MIE prints barcode labels in CODE128 format.  Included in the bar coded information is the preceder code defined as an identifier for the type of data.  (For example, asset status is preceded by the code "ST+").  The preceder code is used by compatible barcode scanners to identify the data element so that the scanned data can be placed in the correct field without requiring the scanner operator to first place the cursor in the target field.  Compatible scanners strip the preceder and only store the actual value.

The MIE prints the actual value (minus the preceder) in human-readable form under the barcode.
