Counters

Counters are used for a variety of purposes.  They may be used to calculate and display (via gauges on the dashboard) various metrics of interest (such as key performance indicators).  Counters can also be used to specify the current deployed position for various software authorizations.

A counter defines how to calculate four values:

1. The minimum value for the counter

2. The maximum value for the counter

3. The current value of the counter

4. The target value of the counter

There are various options available for calculating each of these values, and the current value may be adjusted after it has been calculated by multiplying it by a constant value and, optionally another counter.  The resulting value of that operation can then have a constant value added to it as further adjustment, as well as the value of another counter.  In that way, counters can be linked to each other to perform reasonably complicated calculations.

Given proper access, the menu option for Counters may be found as a fly-out to the Settings/Admin left menu option.

Counters are evaluated by the Housekeeping function, which is generally set to run every 5 minutes.
